OBJECTIVE
Accurate prediction of powder behavior in numerical simulations strongly depends on properly calibrated contact parameters. In practice, however, particle sizes often differ between simulations due to scaling, computational constraints, or application-specific requirements. Parameters calibrated for one particle size cannot be directly applied to another without affecting the macroscopic response. This creates significant challenges in application-oriented projects.
Although a theoretical foundation for contact parameter scaling with respect to particle size already exists and calibration units have been tested, a systematic and practical scaling framework is still required. In particular, it must be clarified how contact parameters of different models can be consistently scaled when particle size changes, while preserving the relevant macroscopic behavior.
The goal of this Master’s thesis is to develop and validate an application-oriented scaling methodology for contact parameters with respect to particle size. The outcome should provide clear guidelines for adapting calibrated parameter sets to different particle sizes, ensuring reliable and computationally efficient simulations in upcoming industrial projects.
